PIEVC - Adapting infrastructure to a changing climate

Process & Timeframe (as of April 2008)

  1. A scoping study related to the four infrastructure categories (buildings, roads and associated structures, stormwater and wastewater systems and water resources) was completed as the first step in the national engineering vulnerability assessment process as of March 31, 2007.
  2. A pilot project to assess the waterworks system for the City of Portage-la-Prairie was completed in November 2007. The Executive Summary is available on the website.
  3. The project has completed six additional case studies using an Engineering Protocol that was successfully used in the Portage project, now considered a seventh case study.
  4. The results of these case studies will be available on the website by June 2008.
  5. A progress report on the national engineering vulnerability assessment, based on the seven case studies plus a national workshop will be available by June 2008.
  6. Further case studies of community infrastructure in the four categories will be pursued in 2008.
  7. The national assessment will ultimately be used as input to the review national and local codes and standards as well as engineering practices in the four infrastructure categories.
